CAPABILITIES AND SERVICES...

Building Envelope Technology & Research (BET&R) provides a variety of services related to roofing, waterproofing, wall cladding technology and other aspects of building envelope design and consulting.  BET&R provides high quality, thorough, technical services and consulting customized for each project.  BET&R provides many construction related technical services to a wide variety of clients.  No matter whom the client -- a building owner, architect, public entity, property manager, contractor, attorney, or material manufacturer -- Building Envelope Technology & Research endeavors to provide unbiased, technically rigorous assistance to benefit the project.

Among the firm's general capabilities are:

Moisture Intrusion Investigation of existing roofs, walls, plaza decks, foundations and other related below-grade elements that are expected to be either waterproof or weatherproof.

Testing and Analysis Services, including a variety of in-situ moisture testing and laboratory services that help solve leaks, water migration, condensation, and material-related problems.  BET&R has the equipment and expertise to conduct electrical capacitance, Infrared, and other types of moisture surveys.

Evaluation Surveys and Reports, whether it be a simple verbal evaluation to explain the existing conditions to a building owner, or a comprehensive written evaluation report, complete with laboratory test data, photographic pictorial, detail drawings, and schematic cost estimates, BET&R is capable of clearly describing existing conditions to you, as well as providing quality-oriented recommendations for design or retrofit solutions.

Design Review and Consulting to provide prudent input and knowledgeable advice to architects, engineers and other designers -- so that they can fulfill their responsibility to prepare complete specifications and drawings (i.e., contract documents) for a project.  Because our knowledge is derived from hands-on experience, and extensive involvement in materials research, we find our consulting is not only beneficial to the project, but educational to others involved.  We have been informed that our consultations help designers, owners, contractors, and project managers more thoroughly understand what is actually needed for the project, in terms of assessment of the design criteria, materials selection, scope of work, expected quality, and anticipated longevity and performance.

Application Monitoring.  When BET&R personnel provide application monitoring of roofing, waterproofing, or cladding installation they endeavor to do so from a knowledgeable, experienced position.  BET&R staff have knowledge of, and are experienced with, all types of most complex low-slope membrane roofing assemblies, steep-slope water-shedding roofing assemblies, above- and below-grade waterproofing, weatherproof cladding systems, windows, as well as sealant and sheet metal flashing technology.  Our monitoring work is conducted with the intention of facilitating quality completion, not burdening the project with inept observers that may not have the necessary knowledge or experience.

Litigation Support/Dispute Resolution to aid in reaching equitable resolution to problems on jobs.  We at Building Envelope Technology &  Research believe that misunderstandings or disputes on construction projects should be promptly resolved.  When parties stall and problems linger, projects can end up in litigation, which is often not a pleasant experience.  Therefore, our unbiased, pragmatic approach of assembling all parties involved at the project site can be beneficial to facilitating prompt, equitable resolution(s).

Technical Training and Presentations to help established design and property management firms, growing companies, public maintenance department personnel and individuals learn more about roofing, waterproofing, and building envelope technology.  Our Technical Director often serves as a guest lecturer or speaker at industry technical events.  BET&R staff have conducted training sessions for maintenance personnel at various public entities.
